‘Injured’: The 26-year-old Nottingham Forest player picked up an injury while on international duty.

Why Gonzalo Montiel struggled during Nottingham Forest full debut in the Premier League - Nottinghamshire Live

Gonzalo Montiel of Nottingham Forest had a rare start for Argentina last  night, but things did not go as planned. The defender, who has struggled with game time recently, played only 30 minutes before suffering an injury.

Lionel Scaloni gave the right-back the opportunity to start the game. It was his first appearance for Argentina since March, and he played only a minor role in his country’s 2-0 victory over Peru.

Montiel’s and Forest’s night ended in disappointment. It’s unclear what the ailment is, but he was withdrawn by his international coach after only 30 minutes and will now be evaluated by the Reds.

Although Forest are rather well-stocked in the right-back position, this isn’t fantastic news. However, the 26-year-old performed excellently in the second half against Crystal Palace, coming close to scoring in the 0-0 draw.

He’d intended to get some more minutes in last night and then return to Forest in time to face Luton. After last night, he’ll need to be evaluated to see if an outing this weekend is still feasible.

TyC Sports stated about Forest defender Montiel’s performance: “He played the first half hour until he was injured.” Correct in scoring and persistent in attacking.”

Forest will be hoping Montiel’s injury is not serious.
The Reds are ready to embark on a stretch of difficult games. Montiel joined Forest from Sevilla in the summer, and Steve Cooper will be hoping that he can recover and that this is only a niggle.

Montiel was having a very frustrating night. He’d have liked to show what he’s capable of with Argentina again, but the night ended in disappointment for the Forest man.

Montiel scored the game-winning penalty in both the World Cup and Europa League finals. He’s a man for the big occasion, and Forest will now have to wait to find out how long he’ll be absent.
