“I’m very happy to be home,” outside linebacker Alex Highsmith said. “I don’t even know what happened, just got delayed a lot. The craziest night I’ve ever had, ever had on a flight, so it was wild.”
Pittsburgh defensive tackle Cam Heyward posted about the emergency landing on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A source onboard the plane told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the emergency landing was due to an oil pressure light that came on. No injuries were reported.
A little after 6 a.m., Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten posted the following message on X:
“Our team charter plane was unexpectedly diverted to Kansas City early this morning on our way back to Pittsburgh following our game in Las Vegas. Everyone on the plane is safe, and we are making necessary plans to arrive back in Pittsburgh later today.”
WTAE’s sister station KMBC said they were aware of a flight from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh that made an “uneventful” emergency landing in Kansas City at about 3:55 a.m. local time.
The Kansas City Aviation Department said 182 passengers and crew were onboard and that everyone would remain on the plane until the replacement arrived.
