Update on Huddersfield Town injuries before their match vs QPR: three players’ chances evaluated.
The Terriers are expected to continue to be without striker Danny Ward and midfielder David Kasumu, while Pat Jones has picked up a new issue and Josh Ruffels is 50/50
Danny Ward and David Kasumu are making “excellent” progress and have both entered the final stage of their respective rehabilitations from injury – but neither is likely to be quite ready to come back for the Terriers to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Striker Ward has not played for Huddersfield Town since before the last international break, with his last appearance coming in the victory away to West Bromwich Albion on September 2. Then-manager Neil Warnock revealed last month that Ward had been playing through the pain of a sore Achilles tendon for several games before then but that it had become too much for him to continue to push through, leaving Ward sidelined for the past six games.
That means he is yet to feature for new manager Darren Moore, who acknowledged after Town’s last game – a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday – that getting Ward back would be a ‘wonderful addition’. However, the wait now looks set to go on for his services.
Kasumu missed the start of the season with an ankle injury he sustained from being kicked in Town’s final pre-season friendly of the summer and had only recently returned last month when he was forced off with a hamstring injury in the first half of the 2-2 draw with Stoke City.
The midfielder is no stranger to hamstring issues having struggled repeatedly with them throughout his time at former club Milton Keynes Dons, but he was largely injury free last season after suffering another recurrence in his first appearance for the club.
Josh Ruffels has been struggling with a groin issue since likewise being forced off against Stoke last month, missing the trip to Coventry City and having to depart the fray early against Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday. Moore described Ruffels chances of appearing against QPR as being 50/50.
Winger Pat Jones picked up a muscle injury while away on international duty with Wales under-21s and is out of contention to play this weekend.
Ollie Turton meanwhile reached a significant milestone this week in his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in February, kicking a ball for the first time since then. The right-back is aiming to return to competitive action around the turn of the new year.
