Dallas Cowboys Trade Target Jerry Jeudy: What’s Broncos’ True Asking Price?

ARLINGTON – It was exactly a year ago when the Dallas Cowboys thought they were closing in on a deadline-beating trade for Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos. Dallas’ proposal, we were told at the time, featured in some form a second-round pick.

Denver was intrigued, but ultimately declined. And here we are again, with another deadline looming (Tuesday) and another series of whispers about what the lowly Broncos and the contending Cowboys might do.

Cowboys and Jeudy

First know that Dallas’ deadline priority is defensive help, not another addition to the offense led by quarterback Dak Prescott and featuring Pro Bowl wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Also know that the Cowboys traded for wideout Brandin Cooks in the offseason, a move made “instead of” pursuing the likes of Lamb … though entering Sunday’s Week 8 visit here at AT&T Stadium by the Rams, Cooks has just 109 receiving yards so far this year for the 4-2 Cowboys.

But Jeudy’s name is coming up again. Denver is trying to announce to the world that it might be a “seller,” but that it’s not in a “fire sale.” So …

Denver isn’t getting a first-rounder for Jeudy. Dallas would be reluctant to give a second-rounder, all things considered. Now comes Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated suggesting that Dallas offer 2024 third and fourth-round picks for the receiver.

Writes Orr: “I would imagine Dallas feels like it has to make some kind of move. As good as recent Cowboys teams have been, there exists a notable complacency when it comes to making that signature upgrade, much like their division rivals in Philadelphia have done.”

Last season, Jeudy put up 972 yards and six touchdowns. Do that in Dallas and he’s the No. 1 wideout here. Spend a pair of middling picks in an effort to keep up with the 49ers and the Eagles? Use those picks to instead bolster a defense that due to injuries has a couple of holes?

We’re about to find out what the Cowboys really think they need, and what the Cowboys and the Broncos really think of Jerry Jeudy.
