Resilient Eagles rally to defeat Commanders, Brotherly Shove no longer invincible.
An unpredictable turn of events on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles managed to triumph over the Washington Commanders with a 38-31 scoreline, defying the odds after two critical red zone fumbles. Their perseverance was evident,
showing that even when all else failed, they were able to come back and pull out a win.
Throughout the game, the Eagles seemed to be playing catch-up, trailing behind the Commanders for a significant portion of the game. The Commanders, spearheaded by their quarterback Sam Howell’s stellar performance, notching four touchdowns, kept the pressure on. However, it was the Eagles who eventually stole the spotlight.
The Brotherly Shove is no longer invincible
One of the key talking points from the game was the Eagles’ unsuccessful execution of their famed “Brotherly Shove” play. This play, often a game-changer, saw a rare misfire when quarterback Jalen Hurts fumbled at the goal line during a pivotal moment in the third quarter. Had it been successful, the scoreline would have been leveled at 17-17.
Earlier on, another heartbreaking moment for the Eagles saw running back Kenneth Gainwell losing the ball just 5 yards shy of a touchdown. This came after a good drive down the field, which lasted almost six minutes and covered 60 yards.
Despite these setbacks, the Eagles demonstrated why they’re considered one of the best teams in the NFL. They’ve historically struggled against the Commanders, even suffering their first defeat of the 2022 season at their hands. Yet, when the game seemed to be slipping away this Sunday, the Eagles rallied, putting up 21 points in the last quarter.
Wide receiver A.J. Brown emerged as the hero of the day for the Eagles. Not only did he secure two touchdown receptions, but he also set a new NFL benchmark. Brown is now the first player post the 1970 merger to record at least 125 yards receiving in six consecutive matches.

The Eagles have issues.
However, as the Eagles celebrate their hard-fought win, they must also address several concerns. Their defense against the Commanders left much to be desired, and their running game was absent. With a significant matchup against the Dallas Cowboys looming in Week 9, the Eagles need to fine-tune their strategies.
While the Eagles and Commanders won’t meet again in the regular season until 2024, the intense rivalry left much to be desired by Commanders fans today, but maybe next season, the odds will be in their favor.
