Green Bay Packers Rashan Gary Fined For Unnecessary Roughness In Week 9

Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary is not immune to the epidemic of fines being handed out across the league. The league fined Gary for unnecessary roughness from his face mask penalty last Sunday against the Rams.

Green Bay Packers Rashan Gary Fined

When attempting to sack quarterback Brett Rypien on Sunday, Gary grabbed the face mask and twisted the helmet. He was called for a penalty on the play but the league determined that there should be more punishment. The penalty falls under the league’s “gameday accountability” umbrella which was what made it subject to a fine. The league fined Gary $10,927 for the act. He is the sixth Packers player to be fined this year and another in a long list of players which is causing some uproar amongst fans.

Lots Of Fines

For a player like Gary, the fine isn’t likely to dent his bank account that much. However, every week, it seems like players are being fined for unnecessary roughness. Some are needed but others are head-scratching. The number of running backs that have been fined has skyrocketed. Apparently, the league is trying to crack down on lowering the helmet but when fans watch the play, there doesn’t seem to be anything malicious happening. It’s football. There is going to be some level of physicality. I’m all for taking out malicious hits but football plays should not be penalized.

The Green Bay Packers are looking to go on a little winning streak. Rashan Gary getting back to his dominant self is helping his unit play some of the best football they ever have under Joe Barry. The team faces off against the Steelers on Sunday.
