Stay or go? Predicting the future of 2024 Commanders free agents at midseason
Which way could it go for the Washington Commanders’ free agents looking for new deals based on what we’ve seen up to the 2023 midseason point?
Pending Deal: Washington Commanders on a deal to import a key man from….
Although we are only at the midway stage of what’s been another dramatic season, the Washington Commanders are already making plans for the future. Josh Harris’ ownership group has installed Eugene Shen as their new analytics guru, which was swiftly followed by the decision to trade both Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the deadline.
Many more alterations might be coming shortly. Much of those will depend on how the Commanders fare over their remaining games, with a wildcard berth still within reach despite a tricky-looking set of contests to conclude the campaign.
The Commanders are newly rich in draft assets and have an abundance of salary-cap space at their disposal in 2024. A frantic offseason awaits – especially if Harris also decides on a complete staffing restructure – which will also affect the 21 pending free agents next spring.
With this in mind, we predicted whether each Commanders’ free agent in 2024 would stay or go at the midseason point.
Curtis Brooks – Commanders DT (ERFA)
It’s hard to know exactly what the Washington Commanders have in Curtis Brooks. The defensive lineman is currently on season-ending injured/reserve after bouncing around the league since becoming a sixth-round selection in 2022, but how much he’d have played this season if he was healthy is highly debatable.
Verdict: Departure
If the coaching staff changes, this is a done deal. In any case, the Commanders are unlikely to tender an offer for Brooks, leaving him free to take his chances elsewhere.
