Sealed Deal: Hawkeyes succeed to sign a star who took them a long……

In Monticello’s 45-0 victory over Jesup Friday night (10/27) in the Iowa High School football playoffs, Monticello Panthers quarterback Preston Ries set the all-time mark.

Ries has now amassed 12,052 yards passing and rushing during his career. He’s amassed almost all of those yards over the last three seasons. After passing for 127 yards and rushing for 471 more during his freshman season, he has been virtually unstopped from his sophomore through senior seasons. What’s equally impressive is his consistency during those 3 years.

As a sophomore, Ries threw for 2,594 yards and rushed for 1,343. His junior campaign brought 2,543 yards through the air, and another 1,421 on the ground.

This season, Ries has thrown for 1,998 yards and rushed for 1,555. It all combined for a massive yardage total that he’ll still add onto. Monticello (9-1) plays at Mediapolis (8-2) this Friday night, November 3, in the Class 2A round of 8.

How tremendous of an athlete is Ries? Back in September, he was one of 51 high school football players from around the country named to the watch list for the Butkus Award for the nation’s best linebacker. As you can see below, two of the other remaining 50 are not only from Iowa but are headed to Iowa City, to play for the Hawkeyes next fall.
