The former father-son Magpie was a star at the VFL level this year.

Former Collingwood midfielder Callum Brown has signed with Northern Football Netball League outfit Montmorency for the 2024 season.

The 25-year-old is set to pull the black and white back on next year following his move to the Magpies, while also splitting his duties with VFL club Box Hill.

Brown was a standout in the state league during his first year since leaving Collingwood, taking out the Hawks’ best and fairest while earning a place in the VFL Team of the Year.

He would average 29.9 disposals and 3.8 clearances per game for Box Hill to rank fourth in the competition for total possessions.

Brown would also be tied to VAFA club Marcellin Old Collegians this year, while 2024 will see him feature for Montomorenecy when not required at Box Hill.

“With our local community being Magpie Army heartland, for many of us Callum’s recent football achievements require little introduction,” a club post read.

“Callum was drafted by Collingwood with pick 35 in the 2016 national draft under the father–son rule. During the 2017 season pre-season he made his debut for Collingwood, recording 16 disposals. He completed his 6 year stint with the Magpies in 2022 after 70 senior games for the club.

“Callum had an outstanding 2023 season in the VFL capped off with 1st Best & Fairest Award (Box Hill Hawks – Col Austen Trophy), a Top 10 in the JJ Liston Trophy and was named Half Back Flank in the VFL Team of the Year.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome a person of the calibre and professionalism of Callum to our club(also affiliated with Box Hill Hawks in the VFL).”

A father-son recruit at Collingwood, joining the Magpies after his father Gavin and alongside his brother Tyler, Brown played 70 AFL games across six seasons with the club before being delisted.

Box Hill amassed a preliminary final finish this year with Brown as their centrepiece in midfield, with the onballer now hoping to help Montmorency better their straight sets finals exit finish from this year.

The Magpies have been home to past AFL players Jake Spencer, Lin Jong, Mitch Honeychurch, Ben Kennedy and Matt White in recent years.
