The Chairman of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), Alamgir Sheikh, conveyed the news to fellow players and members of the sport’s body via a text message. This incident comes just a month after the snooker community mourned the death of Mohammad Bilal.

In May, Muhammad Bilal – another international snooker player – died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

“He had so much talent and was young and we expected so much from him to bring laurels for Pakistan,” PTI quoted him as saying.

Majid’s brother, Umar, confirmed that it was indeed a case of suicide. Majid ended his life by using a wood-cutting machine in his hometown of Samundri, near Faisalabad. Umar also revealed that the talented snooker player had been grappling with depression for the past few years, though the exact reasons behind it remain unknown, and financial difficulties were not a factor.

“It is a horrifying thing for us because we never expected he would take his own life,” said Umar.

Expressing his disbelief and sadness, the PBSA chairman, in an interview with Geo TV, described the Asian U21 silver medalist as an exceptional talent who displayed great potential despite recent fluctuations in his rankings. The chairman emphasised the devastating loss that the Pakistan snooker community has suffered with Majid’s passing.

The PBSA and fellow snooker players have said they are deeply saddened by Majid’s untimely death and offered their condolences to his family. The loss of such a talented individual is a significant blow to the snooker community in Pakistan.

Snooker has become a high-profile sport in Pakistan after stars such as Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif among others helped win the World and Asian Championship titles with a few players even graduating to the professional circuit.
