Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders will do things differently the second time around. He plans to make significant changes to the Buffs roster and will have a second wave coming through the transfer portal, which reopens in two weeks. However, the Hall-of-Famer and his staff aren’t going to be swindled for a payday.
“We’re not an ATM,” Sanders said. “That’s not gonna happen here,” Sanders said Tuesday during his press conference. “If you come to Colorado to play football for me and the Colorado Buffaloes, it’s because you really want to play football and receive a wonderful education. You’re not coming here to get rich unless you’re really coming here with a plan to go to the NFL and get your degree. Not to come here and be Moneybagg Yo. That’s a rapper, right?”
It signaled a new setup going into year two for Sanders, who pulled a majority of last year’s roster from the portal. While the base of current CU Buffs players were comprised of a “melting pot” of other rosters like an expansion team, Sanders talked about the approach toward his method. He even seemed to be excited and knows Colorado is going to make another splash this time around.
The transfer portal opens Dec. 5 and will give Sanders a few options to work with at key positions. A few weeks before early Signing Day on Dec. 20. They’ll have until Jan. 18, 2024 to stack up on talent before the Winter window closes.
Colorado hired Sanders last December and turned a 1-11 program under Karl Dorrell into a 4-7 work-in-progress going into the season finale at Utah. Win or lose, Coach Prime is optimistic toward the future and looks to deliver.
