HURRICANE, W.Va. — A former athlete at Hurricane High School was killed in a Monday morning crash in eastern Kanawha County.

Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies said Cameron Carney, 19, of Hurricane, was traveling east on U.S. Route 60 not far from the Hughes Creek four-lane at about 7:45 a.m. when his vehicle went across the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Carney, a former Hurricane High baseball standout, died at the scene. A person in the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Carney graduated from Hurricane High School two years ago. He was a member of the state champion Hurricane baseball team and also played football for the Redskins.
