Why WR Kaleb Brown transferred to Iowa: ‘Just how stacked we were at Ohio State’
Kaleb Brown wasn’t shy about sharing his reasoning for transferring from Ohio State.
Joining the Buckeyes’ 2022 class as a four-star player and the No. 13 wide receiver in the country, Brown told Rivals the reason behind him transferring to Iowa was because of the depth of Brian Hartline’s wide receiver room.
“Going into the transfer portal — my reasoning for leaving — was just how stacked we were at Ohio State,” Brown said. “The two boxes I wanted checked were quarterback stability and a place where I could work for a spot and play immediately. So, those boxes were pretty much checked and it was an easy decision for me.”
Brown said he learned a lot from Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Hartline in his one season at Ohio State.
“I learned so many different things from them,” he said. “If I could put it in one thing, it’d just be learning the right way to do things, because I wasn’t always a receiver. All of those guys are pretty precise in the things that they do, so I definitely looked up to them for a while.”
In 2022, Brown had one catch for five yards against Iowa while also playing on special teams, appearing in five games.
Brown was one of two wide receivers to enter the transfer portal this spring, along with 2022 four-star wide receiver Caleb Burton, who transferred to Auburn after not appearing in a game for the Buckeyes.
Brown was the highest-rated wide receiver signee in Ohio State’s 2022 class.
Ohio State will not play Iowa in the 2023 regular season. The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes are set to face off at Ohio Stadium during the 2024 season.
