Former Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins May Have Been Targeted on Day of Death
PITTSBURGH — It’s been one year since the tragic death of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, and according to ESPN’s Ryan Clark, there’s an upcoming civil lawsuit that could reveal more information.
Haskins was killed after being struck by a truck while attempting to cross an interstate in Florida after spending the weekend training with his fellow Steelers teammates. According to the toxicology report, Haskins was under the influence of alcohol and had ketamine in his system at the time of his death.
But according to Clark, Haskins’ death could be more tragic than initially believed. Clark reports that a civil lawsuit is set to take place about the death and that Haskins could have been “somehow targeted” during the incident.
Reports from the night before his death claim Haskins was at a club with other players when he got into an altercation with a man he claimed to know. He left the club and, when on the way to the airport, ran out of gas on the interstate. He then attempted to cross when he was struck.
Clark states there is a press release coming about the incident. All Steelers will continue to provide any new information surrounding the report.
UPDATE: The civil lawsuit has been filed in the case, claiming there may have been “blackmail and robbery conspiracy.” The lawsuit, filed by Haskins’ attorney, questions why the dump truck driver was unable to avoid Haskins like many other cars before him, and claims Haskins’ watch was stole at the scene of the crime.
“Many questions remain as to why the truck driver did not avoid hitting Dwayne given the highly visible activity in the area before the impact and the fact that the other drivers did not hit Dwayne,” a release reads. “The truck driver’s cell phone records have not yet ben disclosed. The report also notes that the driver refused to provide a blood sample to the police at the scene and still has not provided the alcohol results.
“As to what occurred in the hours before Dwayne was killed, many questions remain unanswered. It is believed that Dwayne was targeted and drugged as part of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy.”
