Philadelphia Eagles add another former Alabama player
Already carrying more Alabama alumni than any other NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles added another one on Thursday.
Wide receiver Cam Sims has joined the Philadelphia practice squad, the NFL team announced.
Sims had been out of the league since Oct. 10, when the New York Giants released him from their practice squad.
In 2022 during his fifth season with the Washington Commanders, Sims had eight receptions for 89 yards while on the field for 328 offensive snaps and 244 special-teams plays in 17 games.
Sims signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as a free agent in March, but Las Vegas released Sims when it reduced its preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 active players on Aug. 29.
Sims joined the Giants on Sept. 4.
Sims becomes the second Alabama alumnus on the Philadelphia practice squad, joining offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher. The former Alabama players on the Eagles active roster include:
· Guard Landon Dickerson
· Quarterback Jalen Hurts
· Cornerback Josh Jobe
· Wide receiver Julio Jones
· Cornerback Eli Ricks
· Wide receiver DeVonta Smith
· Offensive lineman Tyler Steen
Philadelphia signed Sims after dropping wide receiver Greg Ward from the practice squad. Ward had been with the Eagles since 2017 and had 88 receptions for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns in 40 regular-season games, with all his action coming in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.
After catching 41 passes for 467 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons at Alabama, Sims made Washington’s regular-season roster as an undrafted rookie in 2018. But Sims sustained a season-ending injury on the opening kickoff of the first game.
Sims came back to catch 57 passes for 804 yards and three touchdowns in 54 games over the next four seasons with Washington.
