Mekhi Mews is the latest walk-on to come up big for Georgia football

The transfer portal is heating up and for Georgia Tech, their latest offer is an interesting one.

Mekhi Mews is a transfer wide receiver from the University of Georgia and he announced on social media today that he has been offered by the Yellow Jackets. Mews was an electric player on special teams for the Bulldogs this season and did have a punt return for a touchdown. He also caught 13 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. He was originally a walk at UGA.

Georgia Tech has a pretty loaded receiver room right now, but Mews would be an interesting addition, especially from the special teams aspect of things.

Jacksonville State, Syracuse, and East Carolina are his other offers.

Mews is not the only big offer that Georgia Tech has sent out recently.

Samuel Okunlola, a 6’4 245 LBS edge rusher who played one year at Pitt, entered the transfer portal this week and yesterday, he picked up an offer from Georgia Tech.

Okunlola is rated as the 8th best defensive lineman in the transfer portal according to 247Sports. He played one year at Pitt and totaled 18 tackles, five sacks, and one forced fumble. His brother is an offensive lineman at the University of Miami.

The defensive line has been one of the positions that Georgia Tech appears like they are trying to add to. Kyle Kennard, the leading pass rusher for the Yellow Jackets, entered the transfer portal and Georgia Tech is going to have to try and replace his production. They could use some experience and they have offered a few prospects at the position.

Some other prospects that Georgia Tech has offered out of the portal include Purdue grad transfer Sulaiman Kpaka and MTSU offensive line transfer Keylan Rutledge.

Kpaka totaled 10 tackles this season and 2.5 sacks for the Boilermakers. According to PFF, Kpaka played 163 snaps and he ended the year with a 56.7 grade, which is below average. He would add size on the defensive line at 6’2 295 LBS and he has plenty of experience so those are two ideal things that Kpaka would bring to Atlanta.

Rutledge, who played at Franklin County High School in Georgia, entered the transfer portal yesterday and just a few hours later, announced on social media that he had been offered by the Yellow Jackets.

Rutledge was a starter at guard for the Blue Raiders, was on the CUSA Preseason Watch List, and was a permanent team captain for MTSU. With starting right guard Connor Scaglione out of eligibility, Rutledge could come in and compete for the Yellow Jackets.
