Celtic already in talks over midfielder’s transfer
A number of incomings and outgoings are expected to take place at Celtic in the upcoming January transfer window. This feels like a squad that is not quite the right fit for Brendan Rodgers’ style of football. Of course, questions are already being raised about the manager’s future. But he deserves some backing in terms of signings before that discussion takes place.
Under ideal circumstances, Celtic would bring in starters in multiple positions across the pitch in January. Of course, that is easier said than done and let’s see how things play out.
On the other hand, there are quite a few who could do with moves away from the club. Yosuke Ideguchi is someone who might fall under that category.
Ideguchi was signed from Gamba Osaka in early 2022 and never found his feet at Celtic. He was sent back to the J-League earlier this year, spending the season on loan at Avispa Fukuoka. He thrived there, was one of the best players in the Japanese top flight over the 2023 campaign and helped guide them to a J-League Cup triumph, the first major trophy in the club’s history.
Celtic already in talks over midfielder’s transfer
Unsurprisingly, there seems to be a lot of interest in Ideguchi’s signature after his fantastic performances. A permanent move back to the J-League seems to be getting closer.
As reported by Football Scotland, Avispa Fukuoka are locked in talks with Celtic chiefs over Ideguchi’s permanent transfer. But they face competition from J1 League champions Vissel Kobe who are also keen on the midfielder.
With Celtic’s struggles recently, the possibility of Rodgers taking a look at Ideguchi cannot be completely ruled out either. Things did not work out for him under the management of Ange Postecoglou, but maybe the Northern Irishman’s style of football suits him better.
