Coventry City star makes ‘more erratic’ Leeds United comment after Championship clash

Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas says the Sky Blues’ game against Leeds was “more erratic” than the draw against Southampton.

Mark Robins’ side drew both matches 1-1, and there were plenty of similarities, but Thomas has also picked out the differences between the two games. The back-to-back draws leave Coventry 15th in the Championship table, with six wins, nine draws and seven defeats.

Speaking after the match, Thomas told ccfc.co.uk : “A hard fought point at a good place against a good team. I think the last two games are pretty similar Southampton and Leeds.

Leeds United’s Daniel Farke makes observation about Coventry City team sheet

“I think the Southampton game was a little bit more controlled and the Leeds game today was a bit more erratic, it’s a lot more end to end they are patient but the not as patient as Southampton and they stretched us quite a lot but then I think that worked in our favour quite a lot as well because we had chances to make the game at times.”

Leeds applied a lot of pressure going forward, but Coventry’s game plan was able to see out any danger. Thomas added: “Yeah, most of the players were Rutter, Summerville, Piroe they were all getting in tough little pockets where we’d try and get Joel and Sheafo to try and put the fire out and give us some cover, but I thought the game plan was really good, worked well.

“They had a good period of sustained of possession within the first 20 minutes of the second half maybe first 15 where they got the goal. They had so many times to break us down it was almost inevitable how deep we were and made a change a little bit after the goal you know after being one nil down and got not much else to lose. We ended up being in a different situation where we got after it and changed the game flow and managed to get a nice goal.”

Thomas scored the equalising goal in the 66th minute to earn Coventry the point. Looking back on the goal, he said: “I went on the run didn’t I, Adi was saying we were seeing who could carry the ball further, but it managed to lead to a good goal and find the side of the goal. It was just nice to score. I haven’t scored all season, so it was nice to get that weight off my shoulders and try and get a few more now.

“It’s just what the game presents sometimes, sometimes you see it sometimes you don’t, and you’ve got to recognise it and recognise that the right spot and Tats has put a wonderful ball in the and it was easy for me to attack and got in front in of the centre half or whatever it was and see the ball go in the back of net. It was nice to give the fans something to cheer about from the good support they bring.

“It’s always nice to score I got a few last year and it’s took me 20 games to get my first, longer than I’d have liked but it’s nice to get the first, hopefully takes the pressure off and just go attack a bit more now try and get a few more similar to last season.”
