Cleveland Browns News 12/26: Riley Patterson Signed, Amari Cooper Humble, and Ill-Advised Early Mornings
Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
I may have made a mistake.
I woke up at my regular time this morning, apparently not realizing that my late night watching the San Francisco 49ers be worthless against the Baltimore Ratbirds added to my engagement in an aggressive sampling of holiday beverages, might slow me down this morning. You may think that these morning bloviations are simply my sitting down at a computer and typing whatever pops randomly into my head – and you wouldn’t be far off – but they’re a bit of a challenge whenever every fiber of your being is telling you that going back to sleep is a far preferable option.
But I shall march on. Like Kellen Winslow, Jr, I’m a soldier. (It should be noted that in no other way am I anything like Kellen Winslow, Jr.)
Fortunately for me, I guess, there’s not a whole lot of news from yesterday to recap here. The Browns signed a new kicker, so, you know, that’s nice, considering the regular one is currently broken. He got injured futilely chasing down a Texan who scored a touchdown on a kickoff return, which is not an optimum result. His hamstring has him out of practice so far.
The new kicker is Riley Patterson, who was cut by the Lions last week as he suffered through a slump. Hopefully, the change of scenery helps or, better yet, he’s not needed at all.
I hope that you had a great holiday yesterday. After waking up and slamming together the Newswire, I relied on the awesome OBR team to carry us through Christmas Day, which they did admirably. Thanks to that incredible team of people, I could spend my day with family and focus on them.
After 24 years of never requesting a Cleveland Browns jersey, this year, I have received two. One earlier this year from my son, a Myles Garrett jersey, and one yesterday, a Nick Chubb jersey from my wife. I’ll wear the new #24 Browns jersey around the house today.
As I held up the gift so that my family could appreciate it, we talked about how amazing it was that the Browns had come so far without a player who had meant so much to them. I could never have imagined that the Browns could have clawed their way to 10-5 and a strong playoff position without him, much less without Deshaun Watson and both starting offensive tackles.
With all the recent buzz about Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper’s amazing feats, Chubb has receded from memory a bit, but he’s undoubtedly somewhere working right now, as you’re reading this, bending all his efforts towards returning to the field sometime in 2024. I wish him luck and I am sure he’s never that far from the minds of the players who remain in that locker room, battling for the best 2023 season they can muster.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
