Green Bay Packers Jayden Reed Proved To Be the Team’s Number 1 Wide Receiver

Green Bay Packers Jayden Reed

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed had an adventurous rookie season. Reed caught four passes for 112 yards receiving in a 17-9 for the Packers over the Chicago Bears. and is one of the reasons why Green Bay is heading to the postseason with a 9-8 record.

One of Reed’s big plays in the game was a 59-yard reception when Green Bay had a 14-9 lead in the fourth quarter before the drive ended in a field goal. He spoke to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic by saying:

He didn’t score a touchdown in the game, but he proved in this game against Chicago that he has become the number-one wide receiver option for quarterback Jordan Love.

Reed was a second-round selection from Michigan State and started training camp as the number three wide receiver on the depth chart. He finished the season with 64 receptions (a Packers rookie record) for 793 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 12.4 yards per catch.

Reed also had 11 carries for 119 yards receiving and two touchdowns and averaged 10.8 yards per rush. Is it possible that he can be very similar to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the long haul? It remains to be seen.

Reed led the team in receiving yards, becoming the first Packers rookie to lead the team in that category since Sterling Sharpe in 1988.

Reed exceeded expectations during his rookie season. While Christian Watson missed several games this season because of a hamstring injury, Reed was the number two wide receiver to start the season and then was the number three option when Watson came back.

However, over the last several weeks, Reed has solidified himself as the top receiving option for Love moving forward. He has been very reliable. Reed had issues at the start of the season with dropping passes, but he hasn’t dropped any passes over the last several weeks of the season.

The Packers seem to do well with drafting wide receivers in the second round of the NFL Draft. Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams were also second-round selections and Reed is on track to have careers like them if he keeps this up.
