Long list of injured Bills players day to day
While the Buffalo Bills’ list of injured players is lengthy, there was positive news for the team in that no players have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Kansas City.
When he met with reporters on Tuesday, head coach Sean McDermott said he still needed more information. He listed a number of players as “day by day”: linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle), cornerback Rasul Douglas (knee), cornerback Taron Johnson (concussion protocol), wide receiver Gabe Davis (knee), cornerback Christian Benford (knee), punter Sam Martin (hamstring), linebacker Baylon Spector (back), linebacker Tyrel Dodson (shoulder) and safety Taylor Rapp (calf).
“We’ll take it day by day and see how the week unfolds,” he said on the group. “That’s the latest information I have for you guys.”
Bernard’s day-to-day status was notable given that he was carted off the field on Monday night. He was taken for X-rays of his ankle, which a source told the Buffalo News came back negative.
“Yeah, I don’t know really for sure. I’ve yet to meet with Nate (Breske) to get a little bit more clarity on what his week’s gonna look like,” McDermott said of Bernard. “But like with everyone, we’re just going to see. I’m gonna wake up tomorrow and see, hey, has anything changed from that way we leave it tonight, once I get a chance to be around Nate a little bit more here.”
Asked if Bernard – who was also scheduled for an MRI Tuesday – needed additional testing, McDermott said it was more about how he looks from here on out.
“I think just more further evaluation, in terms of how he how he responds to the injury that he sustained (Monday) night,” McDermott said. “So, we’re just taking it one day at a time right now.”
Fournette released
The Bills released veteran running back Leonard Fournette from the practice squad on Tuesday, McDermott confirmed.
“Yeah, Leonard, we wish him well,” McDermott said. “He did a great job while I was here and so not going to get into the reasons why or anything, and it wasn’t anything conduct-wise or anything like that. He did a phenomenal job, and so we just, we move forward and that we wish him well and thank him for his time when he was with us here.”
Fournette was elevated for two games this season with the Bills, and he ran for 40 yards on 12 carries in those contests.
Likely, the move is to clear room for another player on the practice squad given all the Bills’ injuries.
“Possibly. Yeah, possibly, and then that’ll kind of be forthcoming – any move we would make the next 24 hours possibly,” McDermott said.
