New York Yankees’ Offer Is Off the Table for Star Pitcher

The New York Yankees have taken an offer off the table for one of their free-agent targets.

The New York Yankees had an offer out for Blake Snell that was reportedly $150 million for six years, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Nightengale reports that the Yankees weren’t close in their offer as Snell’s looking for $270 million throughout nine years.

Gerrit Cole and Snell were seen sitting next to each other at the Baseball Writers banquet in Manhattan on Saturday night, causing New York fans to speculate. While the two are represented by the same agent, Scott Boras, speculation is something the fans love.

After spending the past four seasons with the Yankees, Cole knows how to get the fans going. He bought into the situation and made a comment about sitting next to Snell, according to NJ.com.

“I found it particularly interesting that I was sitting next to Blake all night.”

Despite the initial offer of $150 million and Cole’s comments, Bob Klapisch of NJ.com reports that the offer is off the table.

The 31-year-old Snell posted the second-best season of his career in 2023, tossing a 2.25 ERA and winning his second Cy Young. His 99 walks were a major concern, Snell, however, found ways to get out of jams in every start. His 3.44 FIP is a bit concerning, but that’s his exact average over his eight-year career.

As the Yankees saw in 2023, Snell can eat innings and do so at a high level. He tossed 180 innings and started 32 games. With Spring Training approaching, the left-handers’ decision is expected any day now.
