Miami Hurricanes secondary coach Jahmile Addae leaving Canes for NFL’s Buffalo Bills
University of Miami secondary coach Jahmile Addae lost two of UM’s top defensive backs to the NFL Draft in junior safeties Kam Kinchens and James Williams.
Now, Addae is also heading to the NFL.
The Miami Herald confirmed through a source that Addae, who spent 2021 coaching defensive backs for the national champion Georgia Bulldogs, is leaving the Hurricanes to become the Buffalo Bills cornerbacks coach.
Addae’s departure is the second by a staff member on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, it was confirmed through a source that UM General Manager of Football Operations Alonzo Highsmith has left the Hurricanes to take an executive job with the New England Patriots.
Known as a strong recruiter, Addae, who was hired by UM in February 2022, was ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 2 recruiter for the Class of 2022. He replaced former UM DB coach Travaris Robinson, who had been hired by Alabama.
Addae coached UM cornerbacks Tyrique Stevenson and DJ Ivey last season. Both were drafted.
The Hurricanes were ranked 24th in total defense (321.6 yards allowed a game) this past season, 36th in passes intercepted (12) and 55th in passing yards allowed (216 a game).
Addae is UM’s second coach to leave for other jobs. Former running backs coach Tim Harris Jr. left for UCF and will be replaced by USF running backs coach Matt Merritt.
