Yankees Unlikely To Extend Superstar Before Free Agency According To Insider
The New York Yankees are in an intriguing spot.
New York clearly is going all in on the 2024 campaign. The Yankees completed a blockbuster trade earlier this offseason with the San Diego Padres for superstar slugger Juan Soto.
Soto is one of the best players in baseball and is just 25 years old. He will enter free agency at the end of the 2024 campaign and it sounds like the Yankees won’t be able to get an extension in place before then, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
“The Yankees made a big deal to acquire Soto this offseason, and while it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the three-time All-Star spend the next decade in the Bronx, it seems like a stretch to believe an extension is in the cards,” Feinsand said. “Soto will be targeting one of the biggest free-agent deals in history, and even if the Yankees choose to engage in extension talks, the slugger and his agent, Scott Boras, are unlikely to offer any discounts before free agency.”
