Josh McCown, the recently signed coach of the Vikings, decided to leave.

Former Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown named NFL assistant coach with the  Minnesota Vikings

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings have signed Josh McCown, a former NFL veteran, to serve as their new quarterbacks coach. McCown, who spent 16 seasons as a player in the NFL with 12 different teams, has been involved in the league since 2002. After retiring from the game, he became a coach.

McCown was fired along with head coach Frank Reich of the Carolina Panthers, where he had been coaching quarterbacks for Bryce Young. As the quarterback coach for Minnesota, he will get another chance to demonstrate his expertise on Kevin O’Connell’s staff. As their pass game expert, Chris O’Hara, the former quarterbacks coach, has been appointed.

The Vikings ended their 2023 campaign tied for last place in the NFC North are looking to reach the top of the division once again next season.  The Vikings were NFC North champions in 2022 finishing with a 13-4 record and made the playoffs.

The main reason for this year’s disappointments was mainly produced by injuries.  Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles during the middle of the season, which forced Minnesota to shuffle through backup options for the remainder.  They made a trade mid-season trade for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs.  Who managed to keep them in multiple tight games, but was not the long-term solution.

If Cousins plans to test the waters in free agency, the Vikings will need make a decision whether to trade up in this year’s draft to select a new guy for their franchise or turn to free agency.  However, multiple reports indicate that Minnesota is trying their hardest to get a deal done with Cousins.  Who proved he can lead this team to the playoffs in 2022.
