Giants cut Joey Bart, a previous top catching prospect
April 1st: On Sunday, the San Francisco Giants placed former top catching prospect Joey Bart on the reserve list.
As the second overall choice in the 2018 draft, Bart, 27, was predicted to succeed Buster Posey at the plate.
Bart, however, never materialized; in just 162 games spanning four seasons, he hit.219 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs. 178 times in 457 at-bats, he was struck out.
Before Sunday’s game, the Giants were able to pick the contract of Triple-A Sacramento’s right-hander Daulton Jefferies. The Giants were destroyed 13–4 by the host San Diego Padres in two innings of work by 28-year-old Jefferies, who took the loss. Of those runs, five were earned. It was his first time playing in the main leagues in almost two years.
