Raiders nearing deal with Luke Getsy, former Bears offensive coordinator: Source

The Las Vegas Raiders and Luke Getsy are nearing a deal to bring the former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator onto Antonio Pierce’s staff in the same role, a team source confirmed to The Athletic on Saturday.

The move to add Getsy comes after former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury withdrew his name from consideration for the position late Friday night. Both sides thought a deal was done Thursday afternoon, but the contract wasn’t able to get finalized to the point where Kingsbury could sign it.

Getsy, 39, interviewed with the Raiders, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints after being let go by the Bears. Chicago ranked second in the NFL in rushing attempts (31) and rushing yards (141) per game with Getsy as the offensive coordinator, but he could never quite get quarterback Justin Fields to the next level as a passer in his two years.

The Bears ranked just 23rd (19.2) and 18th (21.2) in points per game in his two seasons.

Before his time in Chicago, Getsy was with the Green Bay Packers (as WR coach, then QB coach, then passing game coordinator) for five years, so he knows Las Vegas receiver Davante Adams well.

UCLA coach Chip Kelly was a candidate, but one of the hang-ups was that apparently, he wanted to bring a lot of his college staff with him, per a league source.
