Former Louisville women’s basketball star Jill (Morton) McFarling was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

McFarling was the first honorable-mention All-American in Cardinals history and the first alum to be selected in the WNBA draft. She was the 34th overall pick by the now-defunct Charlotte Sting in 2000. McFarling also is a member of the 2011 Louisville Athletics Hall of Fame.

McFarling recorded 1,402 points, 297 rebounds, 294 assists and 119 steals in 112 games for the Cardinals. She is 13th on U of L’s all-time scoring list and holds the school record for single-season 3-point accuracy after shooting an NCAA-leading 53.5% during the 1999-2000 season. McFarling is the leader in career 3-point percentage (45.5). Before she played for Louisville, McFarling was a 1996 Indiana All-Star, Gatorade Player of the Year, and a Street & Smith All-American as a junior and senior. She scored 1,656 points for North Decatur.

Bellarmine sophomore track & field thrower Sloan Cox broke the program’s shot put record for the fourth consecutive week. Cox tossed approximately 55 feet, 8 inches (17 meters) at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington. His previous best was about 54-4 (16.57 meters) at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Woodford County native Grant Stepp recently was named Kentucky State University’s athletics director.

Stepp, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky, previously had been an associate AD at EKU. His father worked as an assistant coach for the EKU women’s program in the 1990s.

Stepp gained experience as a ticket operations manager and coordinator of event/game day operations at WKU. He was also in charge of day-to-day financial accounting, annual budget and internal audits of the ticketing operation at WKU.

Kentucky State is a Division II school and is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
