LOOK: Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, Iowa women’s basketball reunited in Las Vegas

DALLAS– Former Iowa stars Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin had never spent a month apart during their college careers. On Saturday night, they were reunited in Sin City. They were also joined by former Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder, new head coach Jan Jensen, assistant Raina Harmon and other members of the program.

In their first professional game against one another, the Las Vegas Aces rolled 99-90. Clark, who was playing a back-to-back, finished with eight points, seven assists and five rebounds. Martin stole the show for Las Vegas. She recorded a career-high 12 points, seven rebounds, an assist and a block.

“She just doesn’t make mistakes,” Aces head coach Becky Hammon previously said. “She executed our schemes really well. She plays so hard. Her sense of urgency has really been there the whole time.”

Following the game, they all got to spend some time with one another. It was also a chance for Megan Gustafson to reconnect with Clark.

Clark and Martin were instrumental in Iowa elevating its program to new heights. The two of them were also supposed to have a press conference prior to Saturday’s game, but Clark was the only one that showed up. Clark joked that the headline is ‘she bailed.’ She also opened up about how close her and Martin are.

“(She was) somebody that was with me all four years at Iowa, and I was the person that kinda begged her to come back for her sixth year. … We’ve talked every single day, I call her if not texted her every single day,” Clark said. “I’m just really happy for her and everything coach [Becky] Hammon says about her is just so true, and every single person that played at Iowa and was around our program knows that to be true. She’s the ultimate teammate, she’s the ultimate person, ultimate leader, she’s going to do whatever she can for her team, just super unselfish person, and just honestly she’s just a winner. … She was my teammate but also one of my best friends. You know, I’ve been lucky.”

“It was weird, I’m not going to lie,” Martin said about playing Caitlin. “Looking out on the court and seeing her in a different jersey than me, it was obviously different. It’s really fun, we’re both living out our dream right now and we both get to compete at the highest level, so we’re both really grateful for that opportunity.”

Indiana is 1-6 on the season, and will return to Indianapolis to host the Los Angeles Sparks Tuesday.
