Big news: New York Mets announce the return of ex – star
The New York Mets have made some exciting moves recently, but one rumor that’s been circulating is the potential return of ex-star Luis Severino. According to Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, the Mets are predicted to reunite with Severino on a three-year, $48 million contract.¹
Severino, a 30-year-old starter, had a solid season with the Mets in 2024, posting an 11-7 record, 3.91 ERA, and 182 innings pitched across 31 starts. He also performed well in the postseason, allowing six earned runs across 16 2/3 innings of work.
The Mets know Severino is comfortable playing for them, and if he continues his career resurgence, his next deal could prove to be a bargain. Severino recently rejected the $21 million qualifying offer, which means the Mets would receive a late fourth-round draft pick from any other team that signs him if he were to leave Queens this winter.
While this news is exciting for Mets fans, it’s worth noting that the team has also been linked to other players, including Trevor Bauer, who is eager to return to Major League Baseball after a 194-game suspension.² However, it remains to be seen whether the Mets will take a chance on Bauer.
As for other potential returns, the Mets have also been rumored to be interested in re-signing free agent slugger Pete Alonso, although negotiations have been “exhausting” according to Mets owner Steve Cohen.³
Overall, while there’s no official word on the return of a specific ex-star, the Mets are certainly making moves to bolster their roster for the 2025 season.
