BREAKING NEWS: JEREMY SWAYMAN HAS INVESTED $3.6 MILLION TO TRANSFORM A HOUSE INTO A SHELTER FOR HOMELESS YOUTH IN BOSTON AFTER SERIOUS REFLECTION ON HIS ROLE AS A PUBLIC FIGURE

In a powerful act of compassion and leadership, Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman has announced a personal investment of $3.6 million to transform a historic Boston property into a fully equipped shelter for homeless youth. The initiative, which Swayman has dubbed The Haven, aims to support vulnerable young people by offering housing, mental health care, educational resources, and career training opportunities.

Swayman, 26, made the announcement Friday morning during an emotional press conference at Boston City Hall, joined by Mayor Michelle Wu, local nonprofit leaders, and members of the Bruins organization.

> “This wasn’t just a decision—it was a calling,” Swayman said. “Boston has given me so much. It’s time to give back, not with words or posts, but with something real—something that can save lives.”

The shelter will be housed in a 19th-century brownstone in Boston’s South End, a neighborhood known for both its cultural richness and stark disparities. The building, which Swayman purchased earlier this year, is undergoing extensive renovations to convert it into a safe, welcoming, and dignified space for young people ages 13 to 21 who are currently unhoused or at risk of homelessness.

The facility will include 25 beds, counseling rooms, a library, a full kitchen and dining space, classrooms, and access to 24/7 medical and emotional support services. Local nonprofits such as Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Boston Health Care for the Homeless will partner with Swayman’s team to provide ongoing services and staffing.

According to recent data from the Massachusetts Youth Count, over 3,500 unaccompanied youth in the Greater Boston area experienced homelessness in the past year, with many of them facing barriers to education, employment, and basic safety.

> “Jeremy’s generosity isn’t just financial—it’s visionary,” said Mayor Wu. “This shelter is about reimagining what our city can look like when those with privilege stand shoulder to shoulder with our most vulnerable. He’s setting a new bar for what it means to be a public figure in Boston.”

Though known for his poise on the ice, Swayman spoke candidly about his personal reflections that led to the investment. During the NHL offseason, he spent time volunteering at shelters and youth centers, experiences he described as “life-altering.”

> “It’s easy to forget how invisible these kids feel,” he said. “They’re bright, brave, and full of potential—but they need a stable ground to stand on. That’s what The Haven is all about.”

The Bruins organization expressed full support for Swayman’s initiative, with several teammates reportedly pledging additional donations to help expand the shelter’s programming. Head coach Jim Montgomery praised the goalie’s commitment as “proof that leadership doesn’t stop at the rink.”

Renovations are expected to be completed by early 2026, with the first group of residents set to move in that spring. Swayman has also established a nonprofit foundation to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project, funded in part by a percentage of his NHL salary and merchandise sales.

> “This isn’t a one-time gift,” Swayman concluded. “It’s a lifetime promise.”

As Boston continues to grapple with housing inequality, The Haven stands as a powerful example of what can happen when athletes use their fame not for flash, but for a future.
