Stanley avoids the bottom four, but Lukas Jensen sees red in extra time.
Accrington Stanley remain in the relegation zone despite the defeat against Ipswich, although goalkeeper Lukas Jensen was sent off in added time.

The Reds fought valiantly, but a goal in either half put the Tractorboys on course for a win at Portman Road, where they had only lost one league game all season.

Then, in additional time, Burnley loan goalkeeper Jensen was issued a straight red card for running out of his area and collapsing Harry Clarke, with Kyle Edwards sending the free kick beyond replacement Lisherwood.

It was a furious conclusion to a game that didn’t feature many bookings or hard tackles and will be remembered as such.

It was a heated finish to a game that didn’t feature many bookings or ferocious tackles, and it will leave John Coleman debating whether to recall Toby Savin for Saturday’s trip to Charlton.

A game against in-form Ipswich was always going to be difficult, and Coleman brought in Stanley’s recent recruit Anthony Mancini for his first start for the Reds, with Sean McConville out due to a late two-game suspension.

Cameron Burgess, Kayden Jackson, and Janoi Donacien were all ex-Reds in Ipswich’s starting lineup.

Early on, Stanley sent a few solid crosses into the box, but no one was able to capitalize.

On 12 minutes, Ipswich took the lead thanks to a fast passing move that finished in ex-Red Jackson running down the right wing and playing in.

On 14 minutes, Stanley’s first shot on goal came from a Mancini free kick, which Christian Walton saved low, while Jensen saved a Freddie Ladapo header at the opposite end.

Stanley experienced a setback when Rosaire Longelo was injured on 22 minutes and was replaced by Jack Nolan.

However, they adapted and enjoyed a spell of possession with a couple of off-target efforts while defending tenaciously as Ipswich pushed balls into the box.

Ipswich had the next genuine chance on 34 minutes, with Jensen doing well to keep out a Ladapo effort.

It became frenetic near the end of the half. With the striker’s effort, Stanley broke past Mancini and set up Aaron Pressley.

. Mitch Clark then had a long-range drive saved by the Ipswich keeper as the Reds attempted to end the half on top.

In three minutes of added time, though, a dangerous ball in almost found Ladapo before Conor Chaplin had the ball in the net for Ipswich but it was called offside.

Town’s leading scorer Chaplin was unable to strike the target immediately after the restart as he sought his 20th goal of the season.

Broadhead delivered a pass into the box, Massimo Luongo’s drive was deflected against the crossbar, and Jackson was there to pounce on the rebound on 56 minutes.

Coleman made a triple replacement with Doug Tharme, Cody Adedoyin, and Nathan just after the hour mark.

In a strong position, Ipswich’s Leif Davis fired wide, but Stanley did well to contain Ipswich’s attacking danger in the closing 20 minutes.

However, the game exploded in additional time, with Jensen sent off on 91 minutes and sub Edwards adding the third.

Jensen, Fernandes, Rodgers (Tharme), Sangare, Clark, Quirk (Adedoyin), Conneely, Longelo (Nolan), Martin, Pressley (Isherwood), Mancini (Butler-Oyedeji) are the players for Stanley.
