A few players finished the game with the same special mark that nobody else had that day.

Collingwood has explained why their defenders had nail polish on during their incredible triumph over the Brisbane Lions in the grand final at the end of September.

Furthermore, Collingwood defenders were busy ensuring that their nail polish didn’t survive the game, even though supporters might have been chewing on their fingernails in the final moments of play.

The club has now disclosed what transpired in the rooms prior to the players leaving for the MCG cauldron in an Inner Sanctum video call.

Brendon Bolton, the team’s backline coach, gathered the defenders for a pregame conversation.

Captain Darcy Moore, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Brayden Maynard, Jeremy Howe, Nathan Murphy, and Oleg Markov were among them.

Before taking over as senior coach at Carlton for the 2016 campaign, Bolton served as assistant coach at Hawthorn.

In 2019, he was fired by the Blues and went back to Hawthorn before going to Collingwood.

The room erupted in applause for the coach, before he realised his minor mistake.

“It’s a little girl. I said boy!” he corrected.

A photo of baby Maggie was shared by the club in the days after the premiership triumph, with McRae cradling her in the premiership cup – just as he promised after the win – and wrapped in a Collingwood scarf, while showing off his Jock McHale Medal.

The first photo of the little girl was shared via Collingwood FC’s Instagram page, with the caption: “Fly and Maggie”.

Commenters were quick to dub the newborn “Collingwood’s princess” as they congratulated the parents.

“Just when you think Collingwood can’t possibly get any more wholesome or fairytale-like,” one person wrote.

Another said: “So gorgeous! Maggie is going to have 44 very special brothers to look after her. Congratulations.”
