Giants show frustrations during another blowout loss to Dallas

The New York Giants are getting blown out by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and even players’ parents are questioning offensive play-calling. Things got so bad late in the game that New York’s players started yelling at each other on the sideline and head coach Brian Daboll had to step in.

While trailing 35-7 late in the third quarter, cameras caught Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton arguing, and then Daboll coming over to try and make peace.

That’s not a great sign. The Giants are about to fall to 2-8 a year after going 9-7-1 and reaching the Divisional Round of the playoffs. They were one of the NFL’s sexy sleeper picks entering the 2023 season. They were bad to start but now have lost quarterback Daniel Jones for the season to a torn ACL.

Daboll’s team looked like it was on the rise but now it appears the Giants are falling completely apart.

The Cowboys lit up AT&T Stadium on Sunday, laying siege to the Giants’ weary defense in the air and on the ground en route to a convincing victory, 49-17.

Dallas (6-3) was always favored in the clash, its strength in numbers certain to frustrate Brian Daboll’s bunch. But the nature of its beatdown was far from normal. In fact, it was historic.

Mike McCarthy’s squad scrawled its name into the record books with one of the most ruthlessly effective offensive showcases in NFL history. It was a performance spotlighted by Dallas’ gem of a talent at the X, CeeDee Lamb, who has spent much of the past few weeks making his claim for league’s best wideout.

Lamb went supernova on Sunday. The fourth-year wideout nabbed 11 catches for 151 yards and a score against Big Blue, leaving the Giants’ porous secondary in ashes.

Lamb’s display was scintillating. But it wasn’t particularly uncommon for the lanky pass-catcher, who has enjoyed the best stretch of his youthful career over the past few weeks. Lamb’s showing represents his third straight 10-plus catch, 150-plus yard display in as many games. He’s the first player in league history to have accomplished such a feat.

More ballet dancer than receiver, Lamb was his normal elegant self on Sunday. He enraptured the concourses, eluding his opposition marker time and time again as Dallas trekked down the field. From lunging grabs to routine leaps, Lamb was omnipresent.

He wasn’t the only one, though. Dallas’ offense dominated all day. Dak Prescott embraced the team’s aerial assault of New York’s secondary, accounting for 404 yards and four touchdowns. He added another score one on the ground as part of a similarly merciless ground attack that generated 33 carries for 168 yards.

With their offensive flurry, the Cowboys joined an exclusive club of teams to have broken through the 600-yard plateau. Still, they weren’t quite able to make it to No. 1 on the list. That distinction belongs to the Dolphins, who erupted for 735 yards (and 70 points!) against the Broncos earlier this year.

Still, the Cowboys cracked the top 10 in total yards for a single game. Here’s a look at other offenses to have set the playing field alight in a single matchup.
