Announcement: Jets Reveals No. 1 Choice For Next Coach Hire with Jon Robinson Also Leading For Jets’ Vacant General Manager Job
Reports suggest that Mike Vrabel is the candidate that “the Jets covet the most.” … a report that comes on the heels of the team having already interviewed former Titans GM Jon Robinson for that New York general manager job vacancy.
Are the New York Jets trying to be the “Tennessee Titans Northeast”?
Reports now suggest that Mike Vrabel is the candidate that “the Jets covet the most.” … a rumor that comes on the heels of the team having already interviewed former Titans GM Jon Robinson for that New York vavancy.
Robinson as the GM. Vrabel – who worked alongside him for four years in Tennessee – as the new coach. Is that braintrust the best in the business? What does owner Woody Johnson think of them? And what does it mean to Aaron Rodgers and a roster than most observers should be performing at a far higher level than where it is in 2024?
We already know that Vrabel is open to the idea taking the job, but that he wants to make sure he meshes – or even gets to approve of – the general manager hire.
That request for what is essentially full autonomy over the organization may be an excessive one. But if Vrabel is able to bull through the advice of his former coach Bill Belichick (no fan of Johnson and the Jets, even though his minions are claiming he flirted with the idea of taking this job himself)?
There can be a match. And our Nick Faria points out that it might be the way to salvage what’s left of Rodgers’ career, too. Writes Faria:
“His mindset about what the team should do with Rodgers will be something that must be addressed right from the beginning. Vrabel was able to find plenty of success with Ryan Tannehill during their time together in Tennessee. Tannehill was a veteran signal-caller who had been tossed away by the Miami Dolphins, but Vrabel’s staff was able to get the best out of him.
“New York could do that as well with Rodgers on the roster.”
Vrabel is a hard-nosed and no-nonsense coach … which makes him a fit for a team so burdened by nonsense. Maybe Johnson sees that. Maybe that’s why Vrabel is the No. 1 candidate.
