Just in: Aberdeen move to sign Ipswich Town midfielder and Tunisia international

The 22-year old returns to Portman Road off the back of a successful loan spell with Leyton Orient, and the Dons are reportedly among a number of teams looking at the player.

Aberdeen have been credited with a potential move for Ipswich Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni, as Barry Robson’s summer rebuild at Pittodrie continues.

Plymouth Live report via TWTD that the Dons join English sides Plymouth Argyle, Wycombe Wanderers, Watford and Derby County in expressing an interest in the Tunisian international, who has just returned from a season-long loan at Leyton Orient after helping them win the League Two title.

El Mizouni scored three goals in 45 appearances in all competitions for The O’s, who have returned to the English third tier for the first time since 2015.

He was recognised for his impressive displays by being named as both the Players’ Player and Managers’ Player of the Year at Brisbane Road. El Mizouni was also named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.

The playmaker was born in Paris but joined Ipswich at an early age where he rose through the club’s youth academy. He has made 26 first team outings since making his debut in March 2019, and has also enjoyed other loan spells at Cambridge United and Grimsby Town.

After choosing to represent Tunisia who he was eligible to play for through his father, El Mizouni made two appearances at U23 level before making his senior debut for the national team back in 2019 – which is his one and only cap to date.

The 22-year old still has another year on his contract at Ipswich, which also has the option of an additional year. However he might find regular game time with The Blues hard to come by next season.

Ipswich won promotion back to the Championship last month, and are stacked in midfield with the likes of captain Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and former Aberdeen midfielder Dominic Ball.

The Dons are preparing for a busy window of transfer activity, having already secured the services of Livingston defender and captain Nicky Devlin.

Boss Robson is desperate to retain the services of star loanee Leighton Clarkson, with the player’s long-term future at Liverpool in doubt. Go Ahead Eagles defender Jay Idzes is also believed to be a key target, as the 44-year old tries to fill the void at the back left by departing loan players Liam Scales and Mattie Pollock.

One player who is definitely leaving Pittodrie is versatile midfielder Ross McCrorie, who is expected to finalise a £2million move to Bristol City next week.
