Just done: Raptors trade another great key player to Lakers, But will they find…

Two New Teams Emerge in Dennis Schröder Trade Talks with Raptors

Dennis Schröder appears to be drawing interest ahead of Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Both the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as potential suitors for the Toronto Raptors’ backup point guard, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The Minnesota Timberwolves had been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Schröder as well but Minnesota added Monte Morris in a deal with the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Schröder played for the Lakers last season, helping Los Angles reach the Western Conference Finals before signing with Toronto for the mid-level exception this past summer. The Lakers opted to add Gabe Vincent on a three-year deal in the offseason, but Vincent has been battling injuries all season and does not appear to be close to a return.

A deal with the Bucks would likely include Pat Connaughton and at least one additional contract in order to make the salaries fit. Milwaukee does not have future first-round picks available to be traded, but it’s unlikely Schröder would cost that much in a deal.

Los Angeles would have to include one of Vincent, Rui Hachimura, or D’Angelo Russell in a deal with Toronto. Vincent would seem to be the most obvious of the three, but his long-term money may be a turnover for the Raptors.

Schröder joined Toronto expecting to be the team’s lead point guard this season. He started in the first 29 games for the Raptors before Toronto opted to shake up its rotation and move the 30-year-old point guard to the bench.

For the season, Schröder is averaging 13.7 points and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 35% from three-point range. His fit alongside Scottie Barnes has always felt a little awkward as Schröder is a below-average three-point shooter without much of a pull-up game.
