Report: Rougned Odor signs minor-league contract with Yankees
10-year MLB veteran Rougned Odor has signed a minor-league contract with the New York Yankees, The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported Friday.
Odor, who played 102 games with the Yankees in 2021, has an opt-out in his deal after July 1.
The 30-year-old infielder signed with NPB’s Yomiuri Giants in January, but left the team in March after not making the Opening Day roster.
Odor played in 59 games with the San Diego Padres in 2023, posting a .654 OPS before being released in July.
The left-handed swinging Odor, of course, is most notably known for the punch he threw at Toronto Blue Jays star Jose Bautista in May 2016 as a member of the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays eliminated the Rangers from the playoffs in both the 2015 and 2016 post-seasons.
Odor has appeared in 1154 games in his MLB career and has a career slash line of .230/.288/.422 with 178 home runs and 568 RBIs.
Yankees third baseman D.J. Lemhaieu is currently on the injured list with a broken foot. The team has Oswaldo Cabrera filling in at the hot corner with Jahmai Jones and Jon Berti serving as the backup infielders.
