Cowboys urged to trade for record-breaking star running back before NFL deadline.
The NFL’s trading deadline is approaching, and for the Cowboys, this will be one final significant opportunity to bring in outside help to fix the team’s numerous personnel concerns that lingered after an unproductive offseason. For this squad, no vacancy is deeper than the one at running back, where Dallas allowed Tony Pollard leave in free agency this winter and did little to replace him.
The Cowboys didn’t choose a running back. Their lone outside signing was Ezekiel Elliott, who is still a shadow of his former self. In all, the Cowboys had 463 running yards, ranking lowest in the NFL.
The good news is that the Cowboys might be in a terrific position to add a running back at the deadline. While wide receivers have been the focus of pre-deadline transactions so far, the running back market may ramp up in the coming days.
The bad news is that Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, has long been reluctant to make in-season transactions.
Cowboys Could Target Travis Etienne.
However, if the need for an upgrade in the rushing game becomes so obvious that even Jones gets on board, one prospective target might be a great match, according to ESPN, which published in a story this week headlined, “Guide to every NFL team’s trade deadline: Candidates to be moved.”
