Important update: Potential timeline put on Leeds United manager appointment with clear front runner emerging

Leeds United hope to have their next boss installed by the end of this week, reports TEAMtalk.

Leeds United are in search of a new head coach following their Premier League relegation last month. A handful of names have been linked with the Elland Road vacancy, but one name seems to be emerging as a clear front runner – Daniel Farke.

The two-time Championship promotion-winner with Norwich City is on the market following his exit from Borussia Monchengladbach and Leeds United are said to have knocked on his door. Official talks between Farke and Leeds are yet to take place, according to reports, though those talks are set to commence this week.

Farke also has interest from Celtic and it’s said that Celtic and Farke have held talks. But the Scottish outfit seem to be more focussed on a move for Brendan Rodgers as of right now. TEAMtalk now say that Leeds hope to have their next manager in place before the end of the week, with Farke looking like the likeliest appointment as things stand.

Illan Meslier opens up on his Leeds United regret following relegation

The French goalkeeper is currently away on international duty but has been reflecting on the Whites’ season to forget following demotion to the Championship

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Leeds United’s Illan Meslier has spoken of his disappointment following the side’s relegation from the Premier League. The Whites went down on the final day of last season, with a limp defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur ending any chance of a great escape.

It brought to an end a three-year stay in the top flight. Meslier only missed seven league games since promotion and so understandably feels the pain more than most.

Speaking to RMC Sport, the 23-year-old was asked to give his thoughts after the club were consigned to the Championship: “We are disappointed. Going down to the Championship… there is a feeling of regret, of disappointment.

“Unfortunately, it’s the law of sport. Personally, there are good things, not so good. We can’t go back, but we necessarily think about what happened because normally, we can’t get into this kind of situation.”

The French youth international, who is currently on International duty with France’s under-21s, says his full focus is now on having a strong tournament out in Romania and Georgia.

France are grouped in with Norway, Switzerland and Italy with their first game against the latter on June 22.

He added: “We played our last match on May 28, we had ten days to break. It was necessary, psychologically too. I arrive here with a clear head, with clear ideas to bring all my qualities to the France team.

“I’m very happy to come here, especially for a big event, the European Championship. We have been working for more than a year to get to this moment.”
