Impressive: 23-year-old looks razor sharp for Wolves as he makes brilliant pre-season run

23-year-old Wolves player goes on amazing dribble in second pre-season friendly

Wolves had another pre-season friendly yesterday, beating SC Farense 1-0 – and Matheus Cunha was looking sharp.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Portugal Pre-Season Training Session

Wanderers continued their preparations out in Portugal ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The players are being put through their paces, with Julen Lopetegui determined to get off to a good start.

Wolves still don’t have everyone back with them.

The likes of Hwang Hee-chan, Pedro Neto and Fabio Silva are all yet to return.

But the squad will soon be complete and Lopetegui will be able to try a few different things out.

But it’s likely that most of his ideas will include Matheus Cunha, who has looked pretty handy in pre-season so far.

Matheus Cunha looks razor sharp as he sets up Nathan Fraser against Farense

Wolves’ game with Farense was not broadcast, but the club have released footage of the only goal of the match, which was scored by young Nathan Fraser.

And it came about as a result of some great work by Cunha.

He collects the ball on the left wing, getting away from two players.

Cunha then takes the ball inside, knocking the ball across the box for a Wolves player. It makes its way through to Fraser at the back post for a simple tap-in.

A nice moment follows, as Cunha – having done all the hard work to set up the goal – tells Fraser ‘you deserve that, bro’.

It follows Cunha scoring a goal against Vitoria just days ago.

The Brazilian converted a brilliant Pablo Sarabia cross at the back post.

It’s great to see Cunha starting pre-season well.

He’s had a steady start at Wolves following his January move from Atletico Madrid.

After he joined, he initially wasn’t being played in his best position, which is as a support striker.

He was being asked to lead the line at times and he just didn’t seem all that comfortable.

Hopefully the plan from Lopetegui is to use Cunha in a two-man attack.

Potentially, the 23-year-old could become a key player for Wanderers in the new season. He’s certainly looking razor sharp right now.
