Report: Wolves ‘touted as possible destination’ for 26-year-old after failed 2019 pursuit

Wolves could now sign 26-year-old Barcelona player, after failed 2019 pursuit

Wolves have been linked with a potential move for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie.

Wanderers have made just one signing so far this summer, with Matt Doherty coming back to the club as a free agent.

A number of players have already departed, with a couple more in Raul Jimenez and possibly Daniel Podence.

Wolves fans are really hoping to see some movement on the incomings front soon.

Today, there is a new player link to assess.

Apparently, Wolves could be in for Barcelona’s Ivorian midfielder Kessie.

Wolves touted as possible next destination for Franck Kessie, a player they tried to sign back in 2019

Mundo Deportivo have today ran a story about Kessie, who is set to leave the Camp Nou.

Barca are looking to close an important sale, and everything points to that big sale being Kessie, say Mundo.

He is apparently likely to move to the Premier League next.

Ideally, he wants to join a ‘Big Six’ club.

But both Wolves and Aston Villa are also mentioned as potential next destinations for the 26-year-old, who has made 43 appearances for Barca.

Kessie is a player Wolves have actually been linked with in previous summers.

Wanderers showed interest in him in the summer of 2019.

It was claimed by Sky Sports that Wolves were struggling to agree terms with AC Milan – his club at the time – for the player’s transfer. The Rossoneri were said to want £30 million, and a deal never materialised.

Wolves moving for Kessie would be very surprising

This is quite an interesting transfer link because on the face of it, Wolves don’t have much need for a player like Kessie right now.

Kessie is a box-to-box midfielder that likes to get up and support in the final third, according to Total Football Analysis.

Wolves already have Matheus Nunes who can do this. Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia can also operate as number 10s.

Kessie is also a ball-winner, but Wolves arguably have three such players in the form of Mario Lemina, Joao Gomes and Boubacar Traore.

We shall see what happens. Perhaps Kessie has a tempting asking price for Wolves, given their current financial situation.

But it would definitely be a bit of a surprise move. Even if he is a player they’ve looked at signing before.

Wolves ‘can reach’ club’s €20m demands to sign forward – Selling him would be ‘inexplicable and without rationality’

Last week, we saw reports from the Portuguese media claiming Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Sporting striker Youssef Chermiti.

It was claimed Wolves scouted him in a pre-season game, and followed by stories claiming the Lions demand €20m for his sale.

The rumours surrounding Chermiti are now doing some noise in the Lisbon media, and today, Record features an interesting story on that situation.

They start claiming that clubs like Wolves ‘can reach’ the €20m requested by Sporting. Still, they wonder if that’s a fair amount for him.Sporting CP Adeptos on Twitter: "🚨 Sporting CP recebeu uma proposta de 15M€ por Youssef Chermiti. 🗣️ João Marcelino, @canal_11. https://t.co/gZPGKV1E07" / Twitter

That’s why Record interviewed former Sporting player Carlos Xavier and ex-director Jorge Gaspar to speak about that possibility, and they both believe that’s too little for the transfer.

“If it’s an offer you can’t refuse, that’s one thing. If it’s to value the player and be sold later for other numbers, I think it would be to keep him another year with Rúben Amorim,” said Xavier.

“Releasing Chermiti for €20m would be an inexplicable decision and without rationality, neither economic-financial nor sporting,” stated Gaspar.

Besides Wolves, Bournemouth are also believed to be in the race for Chermiti, with Record today reporting that the Cherries are currently preparing a bid for the transfer.

The striker has recently been promoted to Sporting’s first team, having only 22 appearances made, with three goals and two assists. Now it seems English clubs want him signed before he becomes a real star.
