West Ham United development may see Maxwel Cornet leave amid Everton links
Everton are eyeing a move for Maxwel Cornet while West Ham look to bring Juventus winger Filip Kostic to the club, according to Mike McGrath.
The Telegraph journalist reported on Thursday afternoon (31 August) that the Ivory Coast international could be allowed to leave on loan.
The Toffees are keen on signing the left-sided attacker ahead of the deadline and the 26-year-old has emerged as a transfer target.
Via Twitter, McGrath wrote, “Everton are exploring deal for West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet. West Ham working on Filip Kostic deal for similar position, allowing Ivory Coast international to be loaned to Everton.”
Makes sense
Cornet takes up a spot in the registration and also on the wage bill, so showing him the door, even if it’s on loan, makes sense.
He’s going to get more game time at Goodison Park than he will at the London Stadium so it makes a world of sense to allow this.
It also frees up a move for Kostic, a player the Hammers want to bring in and who’ll strengthen their first team significantly.
David Moyes appears to want him and there’s been a last-minute quest to secure his services ahead of the deadline.
He is a fringe player at Juventus so they will not mind letting him leave this summer, whether it’s on loan or permanently.
He might be a short-term fix but if he helps guide the Hammers to a top 10 finish and another good European run, nobody will complain.
