According to a recent rumor from Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle United will compete with Liverpool for the services of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. According to rumors, the Magpies have contacted the German team about a potential off-season transfer for the star Dutch midfielder.

Gravenberch’s Up And Down Season In German Football

Gravenberch has played a sporadic role for the Bavarian giants this season as he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at the Allianz Arena. The 20-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in 30 matches for the German club during this campaign across all fronts.

The former Ajax talent has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.5 shots and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has been quite accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Bayern Munich is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap in the upcoming transfer window.

Newcastle United Set To Rival Liverpool For Gravenberch: Is He Worth The Fight?

Gravenberch is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. However, the Dutch talent has struggled to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Allianz Arena this season and could be open to a move elsewhere in search of more playing opportunities in the coming seasons.

We can expect Gravenberch to add more quality to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe‘s midfield. He could even go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes at St. James’ Park over the next few years.

At 20, the future is quite promising for Gravenberch as long as he continues to improve his all-around game with each season. Hence, he will be well worth the fight. With all things considered, the Magpies would be wise to orchestrate a move to bring him to Tyneside when the transfer window commences later this year.
