Tottenham tipped to sign ‘big player’ once mocked by Arsenal defender.

Former Arsenal player Jermaine Pennant has backed Tottenham Hotspur to secure a summer transfer for Ivan Toney as a replacement for Harry Kane.

The Brentford hitman has scored 20 Premier League goals this season and Pennant thinks he would be a ‘perfect fit’ for Spurs.

Ivan Toney isn’t shy to get himself about on the pitch, nor is he shy to express his views off the pitch, as Arsenal fans know too well.

In August 2021, when Brentford beat Arsenal on the opening day of the season, Toney poked fun at the Gunners by posting on Twitter ‘Nice kick about with the boys’.

Well, Gabriel Magalhaes was sure to remember those comments by the Englishman because he mocked the ‘£100 million’ man by re-hashing those words when the Gunners beat their London rivals the following season (Mirror).

Nonetheless, could Toney be showcasing his goalscoring qualities in the north London derby next season? Well, he has been backed to replace Harry Kane, if he heads for the exit door, as Pennant told talkSPORT.

“£100 million is fair,” said Pennant regarding Toney’s transfer price. “The reason being, if you look at Jack Grealish, he cost £100 million from Aston Villa.

“Strikers are at a premium. You always pay more for strikers, then you get an English premium added onto that as well. With all those combined, then you are looking at £100 million.

“If you look at the best stats for an English striker, he is just shy behind Harry Kane. He is England’s number two.

“He’s similar to Harry Kane himself. If Kane was to leave in the summer, then I think a perfect fit would be Ivan Toney, without a shadow of a doubt.”

BIG PLAYER’ TONEY

Rightfully so, Toney has got plaudits across the board for his performances this season, with former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill calling him a ‘big player’.

But is it now the time for the former Newcastle man to take a step-up in his career? He is worthy of joining a team in Europe, and if Kane leaves, then it’s logical to have the Bees star on your transfer list.

However, given what Kane has done for Spurs for nearly a decade, then whoever does replace him, is going to have serious, serious pressure on their shoulders because of the huge boots they have to fill.
