Michael Bridges has told the GegenPod Football podcast that Leeds United players have told him the atmosphere under Sam Allardyce since his arrival at Elland Road has been an enjoyable one – despite the club likely to go down.

A 3-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday has all but ended any hope of Leeds surviving relegation to the Championship this season. Leeds need to beat Tottenham this weekend and hope that Everton lose, and Leicester fail to win.

So, a lot has to go in our favour to avoid the drop. Even if Everton draw, it might prove too much for Leeds to survive. Big Sam has watched his side pick up a point from this three games in charge, Man City the other side to beat us.

Bridges shared what Leeds players and staff have told him about the atmosphere behind the scenes since Big Sam arrived at the club – and they’ve “absolutely loved” working under the ex-England boss, even if it is only four games.

“Obviously being a part of Leeds United’s history and being with the club through thick and thin this season, I don’t want it to be them. I just feel the decision was made a little too late bringing in Sam Allardyce,” Bridges claimed.

“Because, after speaking to the staff and players around the club at this moment in time, they’ve absolutely loved the environment since Sam, Robbie Keane and Karl Robinson have come in,” the ex-Leeds striker continued.

Allardyce has done what he could. He has not been given the time to get the best out of the Leeds players. He has improved the overall environment at Thorp Arch, and he has finally given Leeds the blueprint to defensive success.

But it is all too little, too late. Leeds look more than likely to go down and that is also likely to see Allardyce depart the club at the end of the season. All eyes on Sunday, but the chances are, Leeds are relegated on the weekend.
