West Ham United are interested in Everton duo Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana should they suffer relegation to the Championship, according to ExWHUemployee.
Both Toffees have proven key individuals during their rather difficult Premier League season and Everton are resigned to losing them should they suffer relegation on the final day on Sunday [28 May].
Pickford recently committed to a new Goodison Park contract [Daily Mail, 24 February] though there is a gentleman’s agreement in place that he’ll be allowed to leave Merseyside in the summer if the Blues drop out of the Premier League, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.
Belgian international Onana has also been attracting plenty of interest from top Premier League sides and was a target for the Hammers before he joined Everton last summer, and it seems the Irons are returning to the table for his signature, according to ExWHUemployee.
Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast [24 May], he said: “There is also some interest in Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana should Everton drop.
“As well as the likes of Ward-Prowse and Roméo Lavia from Southampton and Jack Harrison from Leeds.
”We are also looking at a few young players who are on the fringes of top clubs such as Cole Palmer at Manchester City and Reiss Neilson of Arsenal.
”The club are expected to bring in around 5-7 players but this obviously depends on players out-with contracts expected to be offered to Fabianski and Ogbonna to remain at the club.”
Busy summer
With plenty of West Ham United stars looking set to leave the London Stadium this summer, it’s only right the Hammers begin identifying potential transfer targets right now.
And those names mentioned by Ex point to an exciting off-season for the West Ham faithful.
With Declan Rice expected to seal a big-money move away elsewhere, as well the potential departures of Michail Antonio, Angelo Ogbonna, Tomas Soucek, Manuel Lanzini and Vladimir Coufal.
The Irons could possess a healthy transfer windfall to attract signings for next season, and that may well be given a much-needed boost should they win the Europa Conference League and book their Europa League place for next season.
Pickford and Onana are exciting propositions for the Hammers to target, especially given the club are desperate for some rejuvenation in the goalkeeping and midfield department.
Also, the Irons are set to lose many of their key experienced stars and given the mixed success of signing players from abroad in recent summers, why not go for established Premier League starters to boost their squad for next season?
