Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is on a shortlist of midfielders Liverpool are interested in signing this summer, according to 90min.com.

The United States international arrived from RB Leipzig in a reported £20million deal last July and was one of the few success stories in a season that saw the Whites relegated from the Premier League.

Liverpool endured their own struggles in the 2022-23 campaign, finishing outside of the top four with their engine room coming in for particular scrutiny.

The 90min report suggests Leeds are readying themselves for the exit of Adams, who missed the final 12 games of the campaign with a hamstring injury, and Liverpool are among a host of clubs alongside Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham tracking his situation.

A name familiar to Reds fans, Brad Friedel, was a coach of Adams for USA Under-19s and previously spoke glowingly of him in an interview with the Daily Mail back in November.

“Tyler Adams as USA captain? I love this. I love the kid. I really couldn’t speak more highly of an individual that I coached than Tyler,” he wrote.

“He’s one of the favourites that I ever coached. He’s a real warrior type, firm in the tackle but what I like most about Tyler is how he handles himself.”

Adams would be a huge loss

There was not much to like about Leeds United this season. Defensive frailty and inconsistencies among their forward line epitomised a campaign of struggle that ultimately led to what felt like an inevitable relegation.

Leeds made a series of poor recruitment decisions, which really did not help the situation.

But one signing they absolutely did get right was that of Adams, whose absence for the final months of the season was a huge contributing factor to their demise.

Adams brings huge energy, a strong tackle, and a good range of passing. It is little wonder his name is being linked to a Liverpool side who really lacked the players to play the kind of high-press game Jurgen Klopp loves.

Leeds will undoubtedly lose players now their relegation back to the Championship after three years in the top flight has been confirmed. If Adams is to be one of the players leaving Elland Road, he would be a huge loss to Leeds.
