Coventry City news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues battle to keep their star striker at the club next season

Viktor Gyokeres’ Coventry City future remains uncertain with an increasing number of Premier League clubs being linked with the striker.

Gyokeres was one of the leading men in the Sky Blues’ impressive push for promotion as they ultimately missed out to Luton Town after losing the play-off final on penalties.

His 21 goals represented a massive contribution and is no surprise to see other clubs keen. Newcastle United are the latest to be linked with the Daily Mail reporting the Geordies sent their chief scout to Wembley at the weekend to cast a close eye over the 24-year-old.

Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace and West Ham have also been touted as contenders for his signature, as have Leeds United, who will face the Sky Blues in the Championship next season following their relegation.

The Sky Blues would love for their star striker to sign a new contract but Premier League wages would likely dwarf what new owner Doug King can offer.

Gyokores will also hope to further cement his place in the Sweden squad. He has been been named in the squad to face New Zealand in a friendly on June 16 before a Euro qualifier in Austria on June 20.

The Sky Blues will be looking for attacking reinforcements regardless this summer after releasing Tyler Walker at the end of his contract.

The former Nottingham Forest man is attracting interest from across League One with Port Vale keen according to the Sunday Mirror’s Darren Whitcoop. However, Vale might be priced out of a move for Walker based on potential salary demands.

Meanwhile, two of this season’s loan players, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Callum Doyle suffered more disappointment after the play-off final.

They both featured for England Under-20s against Italy, meaning England exit the competition. The pair flew out for the knockout game after defeat to Luton.

The Sky Blues will travel to League One side Exeter City in pre-season.

They go to St James Park on Saturday July 29, with a 3pm kick-off for the game against a side who finished 14th in League One last season.
