Leeds United have been linked with a move for FC Lorient’s Regis Le Bris as they continue their search for a new manager.
According to the Sun, both Le Bris and Luton Town’s Rob Edwards feature on a list of targets as they seek to build a project similar to that of Marcelo Bielsa back in 2018.
Leeds have an abundance of work to do both on and off the pitch to be ready for the new Championship season in August, with a new manager arguably the most pressing.
It was reported last night that Leeds have informed Sam Allardyce he will not be kept on beyond his four-match interim spell, a suggestion Angus Kinnear is really starting to turn the screw on his search.
Brendan Rodgers, Carlos Corberan and Graham Potter have all also been linked, but Le Bris may well be a name not too familiar with Leeds supporters.
Who is Regis Le Bris?
2022/23 was actually Le Bris’ first ever season as a manager at the top level having spent time as both Lorient’s academy and B team boss earlier in his career.
After narrowly avoiding the drop last season, Lorient opted to appoint from within and therefore Le Bris was handed the reigns, which turned into an excellent decision.
With one match of the season remaining, Lorient are guaranteed to finish either 10th or 11th, a marked improvement on each of their last two campaigns where they were fighting relegation.
Le Bris has an extremely young team at his disposal and so clearly he has no qualms in throwing them into the first team picture, which could be useful at Leeds given how many of the U21s will be pushing to make their mark.
According to transfermarkt, Le Bris’ favoured formation is 4-2-3-1, though he is not afraid to change it up tactically with 3-4-2-1 and 4-1-4-1 having also been used regularly this season, the latter of which was Bielsa’s preferred setup.
Le Bris has won plaudits for his attacking style of play and at one stage were second in Ligue 1 behind only PSG, a team they defeated 3-1 away from home in late April.
The 47-year-old is clearly someone whose stock has risen exponentially this season and based on what we know, he would represent an exciting appointment.
On the other hand, though, he has been in charge for only one season at the top-level, which is undoubtedly a huge risk given Leeds’ recent failures on the managerial front.
